Part 2
Years later, Barack Obama made a surprisingly honest confession about his marriage.
“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” he said during a conversation at Hamilton College. “I’ve been trying to dig myself out of that hole.”
He has previously admitted that his time in the White House (2009–2017) put serious strain on their relationship.
“It helps to be out of the White House and have more time with her,” he said, praising Michelle for being “forgiving.”
But those comments — combined with Michelle skipping a few high-profile public appearances — sparked months of divorce rumors.
She finally addressed it directly.
During an appearance on Work in Progress podcast with Sophia Bush, Michelle shut it down:
“That’s the thing we as women struggle with — disappointing people,” she said. “This year, people couldn’t even fathom that I was choosing myself, so they assumed my husband and I are divorcing.”
She made it clear: her decisions were personal — not signs of a broken marriage.
“Can’t a grown woman just make choices for herself?” she added.
Despite all the noise, one thing stands out:
The relationship Craig once gave “one month”…
…has survived years of pressure most couples never face.
