In August 2024, Greece was battling one of its worst wildfire seasons in years. A 44-year-old woman from Tripoli set two fires on farmland on consecutive days. When firefighters noticed the same woman at both scenes, they brought her in for questioning. She confessed immediately.
She had set both fires on purpose — because she enjoyed watching firefighters work and hoped to meet a man in uniform. She was arrested on August 26th and sentenced four days later to a three-year suspended prison sentence and a €1,000 fine.
Some people swipe right. She set things on fire.
