When 59-year-old businessman Gabriel Batista tried to cross the flooded bridge near Komatipoort, witnesses say the current didn’t even hesitate. His truck was lifted, twisted, and dragged straight into the Komati River — one of the most crocodile-infested waters in South Africa.
