Kentucky Mom Says Ultrasound Showed the “Hand of God” After Months of Prayer for Her Unborn Son

Amanda Foster, 33, had already lived through devastating loss long before this pregnancy. When she was 17, she lost her first baby boy to Potter syndrome, a severe condition that affects kidney development and is often fatal. She later said doctors told her it was unlikely she would ever carry a healthy baby boy.

After years of pain, Amanda said she rebuilt her life and faith, and in 2021, she turned back to God. She later welcomed a healthy son, and when she became pregnant again with another boy — whom the family named Kyler — she admitted the fear came rushing back. Early scans showed a concerning issue near the baby’s aorta, raising fears of a possible heart defect.

Before every ultrasound appointment, Amanda said she would kneel in the doctor’s office and pray the same prayer: that God would keep His hand on her baby. According to her account, the suspected heart problem later disappeared, and doctors could not explain why it was no longer visible on follow-up scans.

Then came the moment that sent her story across social media.

At a 32-week ultrasound, Amanda said her daughter Bailey was the first to notice something unusual in the image. She asked whose hand was beside the baby’s head. Amanda’s husband Kyle saw it too. In the scan, the family believed they could see what looked like a large hand resting next to baby Kyler’s face — exactly where Amanda had been praying for God’s hand to be.

Amanda shared the image on Facebook, where it quickly went viral and was viewed by millions. In a later update at 36 weeks, she said Kyler was continuing to grow well, weighing more than 7 pounds, with a healthy heart rate and normal breathing movements.

Medical experts and commentators have said the image is most likely an ultrasound artifact — a shadow, overlap, or distortion created during the imaging process. Amanda, however, says she believes it was something far more meaningful. For her, there is only one explanation: the hand she prayed for is exactly what she saw.

Whatever people believe about the image itself, the story has clearly struck a nerve — not just because of the picture, but because of the pain, faith, fear, and hope behind it.
