Matthew McConaughey, the distinguished actor of “Dallas Buyers Club,” has disclosed the unusual diet plan he used to shed fifty pounds for the part. In an episode that aired on October 22, the actor revealed that his diet consisted of only egg whites, tapioca pudding, lots of fish, and “as much wine as [he] wanted to drink.”His purpose for adhering to such stringent guidelines was to correctly portray Ron Woodroof, the character he plays in the film, who was diagnosed with stage 4 HIV/AIDS in the mid-1980s. He added that if he hadn’t shed all of the weight, it would have been evident on film, and people would not have recognized him as Ron Woodroof.
McConaughey recognized that the decision was difficult but that it was not painful. Instead, he declared himself a fighter who addressed the problem head-on to reflect his character and what it represents honorably.

He ate about five ounces of fish for lunch and dinner and tiny amounts of veggies and egg whites for breakfast. Although the actor was watching his nutrition, he wasn’t wholly starving himself; he allowed himself the rare delicacy of tapioca pudding, which he ate with the tiniest antique spoon from New Orleans.
This strategy allowed him to taste it more, as McConaughey explained during a press conference at the 2014 Screen
