Three-year-old Ryker Webb stepped outside his home in Troy, Montana… and vanished.
Behind his house stretched miles of unforgiving wilderness — thick forest known for bears, mountain lions, and terrain that can swallow even experienced hikers. Ryker was wearing nothing but a light blue onesie.
Search teams launched immediately. More than 50 rescuers flooded the area, using ATVs, drones, and helicopters. But conditions quickly turned against them. A storm rolled in. Temperatures dropped. Rain soaked the ground through the night.
There was no sign of him.
Then came a small but telling clue.
Along a trail, rescuers noticed rocks had been turned over. Ryker had a habit — he loved looking for bugs. Piece by piece, they realized he may have wandered deeper into the forest, flipping stones as he went.
Time passed. Nearly two full days.
Hope was fading.
Then, something unexpected happened.
A couple living nearby heard a faint noise coming from their shed. At first, they weren’t sure what it was. But when they checked inside, they found something almost impossible.
There, curled up inside a lawnmower bag, was Ryker.
Alive.
Despite the cold, the rain, and the wildlife around him, the toddler had survived alone in the wilderness for nearly 48 hours.
When the sheriff carried him out, he later said the boy felt “light as a bird.”
Against all odds, Ryker made it home.
