Tour Guide Arrested After Drawing on 4,000-Year-Old Egyptian Pyramid
Egyptian authorities have arrested a tour guide after a video went viral showing him drawing with white chalk on the Pyramid of Unas in Saqqara. This structure dates back more than 4,000 years to Egypt’s Fifth Dynasty.
The footage shows the guide sketching a stick-figure style drawing directly onto the ancient limestone blocks. The incident sparked outrage online, with many accusing him of disrespecting one of the world’s most important archaeological treasures.
Officials confirmed that the markings were made with chalk and were removed by specialists. Despite the drawings being temporary, authorities treated the act seriously due to Egypt’s strict laws protecting antiquities and heritage sites.
The Pyramid of Unas is historically significant — it contains some of the earliest known Pyramid Texts, making it one of the most important monuments in ancient Egyptian history.
