GOP Rep Pushes for DOJ Investigation Into Soros Network Amid Political Violence

A Republican lawmaker is calling for a sweeping Department of Justice investigation into organizations funded by billionaire megadonor George Soros, citing growing concerns that some groups in his network may be fueling political extremism and violence inside the United States.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) formally requested a federal probe in a letter sent Thursday to Attorney General Pam Bondi, urging the DOJ to examine whether Soros-backed organizations have violated federal laws related to domestic terrorism, material support for violence, or politically motivated intimidation.

The request was first reported by The Daily Caller.

‘Comprehensive and Immediate’ Investigation Requested

In his letter, Carter called for a “comprehensive and immediate” investigation into the Open Society Foundations and affiliated groups, arguing that credible reporting has raised serious questions about how Soros’s money is being used.

“There is growing concern, based on credible reporting, that George Soros’ Open Society Foundations have played a significant role in funding organizations associated with promoting political extremism,” Carter wrote, “including groups that engage in or endorse actions that meet the FBI’s definition of domestic terrorism.”

Carter made clear that the issue is not political disagreement, but public safety.

“The funding of organizations that engage in, support, or incite political violence must not be tolerated,” he added.

The Georgia congressman is currently running to unseat Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in the 2026 election.

Report Details Alleged Links to Extremist Activity

Carter’s request references a recent report from the Capital Research Center (CRC), which alleges that Soros, through the Open Society Foundations, directed more than $80 million to organizations that either engaged in or endorsed activities falling under the FBI’s domestic terrorism criteria.

Among the groups highlighted in the report is the Center for Third World Organizing (CTWO), which reportedly received $400,000 in Soros-linked funding. According to CRC, CTWO publicly stated that it “threw down with people in the streets” during the violent 2020 George Floyd riots.

The report further claims that CTWO has served as an umbrella organization for multiple radical groups, including the Ruckus Society, whose training materials and founders have promoted protest tactics that “may be outside of the law.”

Pro-Hamas Materials and Network Expansion

The CRC report also identifies the BlackOUT Collective as part of the same network. That group co-authored a guide praising the October 7 Hamas terror attack on Israel and cited a Ruckus Society manual that promoted property destruction, blockades, and direct action tactics.

Additional Soros-funded organizations named in the report include:

Dream Defenders – $1.85 million
Movement for Black Lives – $18 million
Dissenters – $200,000
All were reportedly connected to the same pro-Hamas publication, according to CRC.

Growing Pressure on DOJ

Carter’s call for a DOJ investigation comes amid renewed scrutiny of political violence following a series of riots, attacks on law enforcement, and extremist demonstrations across the country.

While Soros and his organizations have long denied any involvement in violence, Republicans argue that continued financial support for groups that endorse or excuse violent actions warrants federal review.

At minimum, Carter says, the American public deserves transparency.

“This is about enforcing the law equally,” Carter wrote, “and ensuring that no individual or organization—no matter how wealthy or politically connected—is above accountability.”

Whether the Department of Justice acts on the request remains to be seen. But with pressure mounting and election season approaching, the issue of political violence—and who funds it—is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
