Governor Whitmer Caught Hiding Her Face in Oval Office Visit
During a recent White House visit, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer drew attention for an unexpected move—she tried to hide her face.

Whitmer Dodges Cameras
Whitmer, 53, is widely seen as a top 2028 Democratic contender. But during President Donald Trump’s press conference, she appeared uncomfortable. Seated between two White House aides, she covered her face with a stack of blue binders.

Observers quickly noted she seemed eager to avoid being associated with the Republican president.

No Warning About the Press
According to her spokesperson, Whitmer had no idea she’d be brought into the Oval Office during the media appearance.
“She was surprised by the press conference and wasn’t told what it would cover,” the spokesperson told CNN. “Her presence is not an endorsement.”

Critics vs. Supporters
The New York Times described Whitmer as standing “glumly” while Trump signed executive orders. Meanwhile, some praised her stance online, calling it a “brilliant protest” and saying she had been “ambushed.”

One Reddit user wrote, “Excellent in her for not falling into their trap.” Another added, “She was invited for a private discussion, not a photo op.”

Governor Speaks Out
Speaking at a college event, Whitmer explained her reaction:
“It was not where I wanted to be, nor where I planned to be. I disagree with much of what was said, but I stayed to advocate for Michigan. That’s my job.”

A Surprising Shift in Tone
Despite her visible discomfort, Trump publicly praised Whitmer during the event.
“We’re honored to have Gretchen Whitmer here. She’s done an excellent job,” he said.

This praise marks a stark contrast to his tone during the pandemic, when he blasted her, saying, “All she does is sit there and blame the federal government.”
