Left-wing ‘squad’ member Rep. Jasmine Crockett could be out of Congress after a new redistricting map was approved by a committee in the GOP-controlled Texas House on Friday.
The new map creates five more Republican-dominated seats by eliminating current Democrat-held seats including one held by Crockett, who represents constituents near Houston.
“I currently don’t live in the [Congressional District] 30 that they created…that’s not where I live now,” Crockett said on Saturday in response to the newly drawn map.
The Democrat accused state Republicans of creating the redistricting controversy, even after soliciting input from her and other incumbent members of Congress about their home addresses.
“They are supposed to take that into consideration, and these are some of the things that the court will look at when they’re trying to determine whether or not there were problems with creating the maps,” Crockett complained, per The Grio. “It’s really awful.”
“It is a hot mess, and it is so sad that these people have no integrity and could care less about doing what’s right,” said Crockett, without addressing the fact that Democrat-run states have gerrymandered their districts to alienate Republican voters for years.
Crockett’s mouth got her into trouble earlier this year over highly inappropriate remarks she made about Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
While speaking at a Human Rights Campaign banquet in Los Angeles, Crockett took aim at Abbott, referring to him as “Gov. Hot Wheels.” Abbott, who has used a wheelchair since 1984 after a tree fell on him while he was jogging, was paralyzed from the waist down in the accident.
The remark led U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas) to call for her censure in the House. “Words have meanings, and actions have consequences. I look forward to introducing my resolution to censure you for your words and actions,” Weber wrote on the X platform after Crockett tried to explain away her comment.
“I have officially FILED the censure resolution against Rep. Jasmine Crockett,” Weber said. “She must be censured and held accountable for the venomous rhetoric she spews as a representative of the Democratic Party.”
Weber condemned Crockett’s remarks as discriminatory, calling them the latest in a pattern of inappropriate behavior. He also pointed to a tense exchange during a May 16, 2024, congressional hearing, where Crockett clashed with Reps. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), as further evidence of her inflammatory rhetoric.
Censure is a formal reprimand issued by Congress to one of its members for “disorderly behavior” that falls short of grounds for expulsion. If a majority of House members vote in favor, the resolution detailing the misconduct is read aloud on the House floor, with the censured lawmaker required to stand in the well of the chamber during the reading, NBC-DFW reported.
The censure vote never took place, however.
That said, Republicans are more than willing for her to become and remain the face of the Democratic Party moving forward – for as long as she remains in Congress, anyway.
“If Jasmine Crockett is a thought leader of the party, Democrats will stay in the wilderness longer than Moses did,” Fox News host and former South Carolina GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy said in June before playing a clip of her nonsensical meltdowns.
“It’s hard to know where to start with Ms. Crockett. She mocked the governor of Texas for being paralyzed. She conflates attention deficit disorder with insanity, which is both cruel and medically stupid. What she’s really saying is that a majority of her fellow citizens voted for someone who’s insane. So what does that make us? Here’s some free political advice. Insulting voters typically is not a pathway to success,” said Gowdy.
