A Ukrainian member of Parliament has called for impeachment proceedings against President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, arguing that such action is essential for the country’s future leadership.
The demand comes amid mounting criticism of Zelenskyy’s handling of Ukraine’s international standing following his contentious White House meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance last week.
Zelenskyy’s increasingly authoritarian approach and his outright rejection of a proposed peace and rare earth minerals deal with the U.S. have fueled concerns over his leadership, as his foreign policy missteps have left Ukraine increasingly isolated on the global stage.
As such, Ukrainian MP Alexander Dubinsky is now calling for an emergency session to launch impeachment proceedings against Zelenskyy, accusing him of diplomatic failures, losing Ukraine’s once-unquestioned U.S. support, and presiding over what he described as the regime’s complete collapse.
“Zelensky has not only failed in foreign policy – he has driven the country into a state where anyone who disagrees with his course faces repression,” he said in a statement.
Dubinsky attributed Zelenskyy’s intransigence to the country’s impasse, highlighting that Ukraine has run out of options.
“Zelenskyy has lost,” Dubinsky said, echoing Trump’s previous remarks. “If he cannot offer a real way out of the crisis, then it is up to us to make fateful decisions.”
Dubinsky outlined why he feels the Ukrainian president should be impeached, per Townhall.com:
- The failure of foreign policy, which has led to Ukraine’s international isolation and the loss of allied support.
- A lost war, which is the result of incompetent leadership and catastrophic decisions.
- Violations of citizens’ rights and the usurpation of power, manifested in the suppression of the opposition, persecution of dissenters, and authoritarian rule.

The impeachment call comes as Zelenskyy told reporters on Sunday that he was “exchangeable” for Ukraine’s NATO membership, suggesting he would step down as the country’s leader if it secured entry into the military alliance. He also indicated his willingness to sign the minerals deal with Trump.
“I have said that I am exchanging for NATO membership, then it means I have fulfilled my mission. NATO means I have fulfilled my mission,” he said.
“To change me, it will not be easy because it is not enough to simply hold elections. You would need to prevent me from participating. And it will be a bit more difficult,” Zelenskyy added.
On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt set the record straight when asked about the explosive meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy.
During an interview on Fox News with host Howard Kurtz, Leavitt defended Trump, calling the Ukrainian president “antagonistic” and “rude.”
Kurtz immediately took a cheap shot at the White House by saying Zelensky could be “irritating” but that “it also seemed like President Trump lost his temper.”
Leavitt pushed back hard, dismissing the idea outright: “I would disagree with that. I think what happened in the Oval Office, I was there, was unfortunately President Zelenskyy came in with a mindset [of] not wanting to negotiate peace.”
She added: “President Zelenskyy was also antagonistic, and frankly, he was rude. He picked a fight with the Vice President of the United States. He repeatedly interrupted President Trump… After three years of funding this brutal war, [Americans] are sick and tired of footing the bill.”
After Leavitt said that Zelenskyy was told ahead of time that the meeting was about signing a minerals agreement and getting to a cease-fire, Kurtz pivoted to the public spat.
“Yeah, I would just say a ceasefire might leave all the Russian land gains intact,” Kurtz replied, before adding: “I’ve never seen anything like it, would have happened behind closed doors. So why hold the meeting in front of the cameras?”
Leavitt replied: “Because President Trump is the most transparent president in history and it was great for the cameras to be in there because the American people and the world were able to see what the president and his team has seen behind the scenes in negotiating with President Zelensky’s team.”
