Woman Had Been “Buried Alive” By Mistake For 11 Days – When Family Opened Her Casket They Said Her Body Was Still Warm

After being accidentally buried alive, a woman is said to have fought her way out of her coffin for as long as 11 days.

Before being buried in Brazil, 37-year-old Rosangela Almeida dos Santos is thought to have made a valiant attempt to break free of the wooden box she was nailed into, in an incident that can only be described as something out of most people’s nightmares.

Eleven days after her burial, in the Senhora Santana cemetery in Riachao das Neves, neighbors claimed to have heard screaming and hammering coming from her tomb.

Her coffin was raised above the ground and reopened as a result of the worries, and The Independent reports that the tragic event was caught on camera.

A video showing family members breaking down her grave was circulated; in it, people could be seen stroking Dos Santos’s feet and remarking that she was still warm. According to her family, there was proof that she had attempted to fight her way out.

Sadly, Dos Santos had already passed away by the time her casket was reopened on February 9, 2018, and even though she had been brought to the hospital, her body was pronounced dead and she was buried the next day.

When the casket was opened, it was discovered that Dos Santos’s body had turned inside. Neighbors who lived close to the cemetery had informed her family about the eerie noises they were hearing from her tomb.

The Daily Mail reported that the woman had wounds on her wrists and forehead from struggling to escape the tomb, and that cotton wool that had been in her nostrils and ears had come out.

It was also alleged that bloodstains and scratches were discovered inside the coffin, and that as Dos Santos attempted to flee, the nails holding the lid shut were forced upward.

Her family had brought her to a hospital in northeast Brazil due to extreme exhaustion, and she was taking anti-convulsant drugs for episodes of fainting that had occurred since she was seven years old.

Her death certificate said that she suffered two cardiac arrests before her death from “septic shock.” Her family attended a wake that evening, and the next day, she was buried in a concrete tomb near her hometown.

Residents near the cemetery claimed to have heard muffled screams during the night, although at first they thought the noises were the result of kids pulling practical jokes.

A neighbor reported hearing two groans before the noise subsided and she heard cries.

Following the recovery of Dos Santos’s body, a number of locals are said to have gone to the cemetery to view her and confirm that she was still warm.

The family reported the incident to the police, believing that Dos Santos, a married man without children, had been mistakenly proclaimed dead after only one week in the hospital.

We continue to pray for the family and loved ones of Dos Santos.
