It’s impossible to know how important something is to someone else on any given day.
We spend a lot of time taking care of ourselves, so most of our attention is on ourselves. As a result, we can lose sight of how much we can influence and affect other people.
That’s why it’s so important for all of us to always do our best to be kind, should anyone need a reminder. People who care about others and are kind to them will always be in style. The opposite is true; they will always be very important to society.
It was 2017 and Joyce Rhinehart was out with her grandson to get ice cream. They saw a family sitting on a nearby bench. They were also eating ice cream, and Joyce said she had a sudden urge to take a picture of them…
The next day, Joyce wrote on Facebook, “On June 8th I was at Rita’s Italian Ice with my grandson Blake treating him after his tennis lesson. As we were about to leave, there was this sweet family all sitting together on one of the benches enjoying a custard cone. Something urged me to ask them if I could take their picture…”
In the end, Joyce did that, and then the two families went their different ways. It was a normal, nice, and touching conversation, and that was the end of it.
It’s too bad that fate had other plans.
Joyce’s post went on to say, “I took this picture below and then handed my phone to the young daughter and told her to go ahead and text the picture to their cell phone.
Left to take Blake home and explained to him how I have done this before when I see cute family moments of total strangers so they can have the memory.
Usually, I do this on vacation.“
After a few days, Joyce was sitting on her porch when she got a text message from a number she didn’t know.
“This is the message:” Joyce told us.
“Dear madam, you took our picture in front of Rita’s on June 8th. My wife has passed away yesterday and this is the last picture we have together as a family. Please accept my deepest gratitude for your kindness, it means the world to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Joyce went on to say that she had talked to the man through a number of texts and learned that his wife had been sick for many months.
“My heart is heavy for this sweet family I don’t even know and the tremendous gift that was left to them cause I listened to my gut that day. I’m in awe!!” Joyce said.
I don’t know about you, but this small act of kindness made me feel better. This really shows how important it is to never forget how much a chance act of kindness can mean.
